Also, since steamos is an immutable filesystem you would probably end up installing the emulators as a flatpak and I'm not sure if that always works that well or if all the emulators even have a flatpak version. If it's just a flat zip/directory, you can just put it anywhere on your deck. In both cases, you import the game into Steam as a non-Steam game and get basically the same behaviour as if it was a Steam game (minus direct integration features like workshop, community and dlc downloads).
